The heavy rains across South Africa are wreaking havoc on roads and other infrastructure, and telecoms networks are also affected.
Bloomberg reported that Telkom is experiencing an increase in network related faults during this period.
Telkom previously explained that Gauteng, in particular, is predisposed to heavy rains as well as a high water table often resulting in the flooding of underground access infrastructure.
Flooding could cause faults but it also restricts workmen from accessing the fault zone, causing delays in repair times.
Telkom said that it is monitoring all critical sites, and that their technicians are working additional hours to address the problems.
Last week Eskom introduced load shedding in certain areas to prevent collapse of the national power grid, also caused by the heavy rains.
Eskom said that the pressure on its electricity supply was caused after their coal supplies for electricity generators became wet after the persistent rain.
