According to MyBroadband’s latest Speedtest results, Cybersmart’s priority ADSL on a 2Mbps line has recorded the best ADSL latency from South Africa to an international test server based in London.
Following on from our look at local latency results – Best ADSL latency in SA – there were plenty of comments wondering how international latency measured up. Those results are below.
As South African gamers we sometimes have little choice but to connect to far-flung servers for our multiplayer games, and so the Speedtest results give insight into the general state of ADSL latency from SA to international locations.
Latency is the amount of time it takes for a data packet to be sent from the user, to a server, and returned to the user. This is typically measured in milliseconds (ms). For online gaming, the lower your latency, the better your experience will be.

MyBroadband’s aggregated results are powered by Ookla’s Speedtest platform. The results have been filtered and aggregated (Joburg and Cape Town test servers) to represent the best overall ADSL ISP latency performance across South Africa.
Note that results are filtered to ensure that these are an accurate representation of what a real-world user might experience; in other words, none of the results include tests done from core locations on the respective networks of the ISPs listed.
In South Africa, the MyBroadband Speedtest platform is powered by Ookla technology, and the platform is hosted at Teraco and NAPAfrica’s vendor neutral data centres in Johannesburg and Cape Town. More info here: MyBroadband speed test: bigger and better
