The average cost per megabit of residential broadband continues to fall for services delivered over cable and fibre networks. This is according to Point Topic’s Q1 2015 broadband tariff trends report.

The report shows how the average cost per Mbps for business and residential broadband services has changed over time.

While fibre and cable prices continue to decline, services delivered over copper networks follow a more erratic path and have actually risen in the last two quarters.

More importantly, copper broadband services have been consistently higher than cable and fibre equivalents over the last five years.

Copper broadband services tend to be costliest where there is no competition in the market from other networks.
