In May 2009 First National Bank (FNB) entered the telecommunications arena with a pay-as-you-go ADSL offering and a Digital Phone Voice-over-IP (VoIP) service.
Since then FNB Connect launched innovative services like its 25c per minute call rate where subscribers can call any country in the world, on any device and at any time of day or night at a rate of 25c per minute.
The company has also boosted its ADSL data bundles to be more competitive in the local market. FNB Connect currently offers ADSL data bundles at prices ranging between R12 per GB and R24 per GB, and FNB account holders stand to get additional data on standard 3GB data bundles.
When purchasing a 3GB data bundle for R73 FNB account holders will get between 250MB and 1GB data free per month. The table below gives an overview of this offering:
|Monthly FREE Data||R73 Bundle||Total|
Personal Platinum Cheque Account
Personal Gold Cheque Account
Personal Silver Cheque Account
Other Personal FNB account
FNB Connect’s 3GB ADSL data bundle pricing is in line with similar offerings from ISPs like MWEB (R79), Axxess (R59) and Cybersmart (R29 to R45 depending on speed).
FNB is also offering aggressively priced high end services, with pricing as low as R12.38 per GB for a 50GB data bundle. The following table provides a basic pricing comparison on larger data bundles from some of the prominent ADSL ISPs.
