Angry Birds cost $140k to make, has made $70 million

Speaking to wired.co.uk, Angry Birds developer Rovio claims that its ridiculously successful casual game cost just $140,000 to develop. 75 million customers later, and the game has earned more that  €50 million ($70million). That’s R490,000,000.

This revenue has been attributed not only to game sales, but also to 60,000 Angry Birds toys sold.

It’s hard to believe then that at the beginning of 2009, Rovio was close to bankruptcy. Angry Birds is one of gaming’s most prominent success stories of the past 5 years, managing to dominate sales in the iTunes store before making its way to Android, PC, PS3, and soon Facebook.

Rovio plans to continue working with the Angry Birds brand, with a multiple future projects planned within the universe that has become part of modern pop culture.
