It’s been forty millennia in the making, and THQ has finally announced that third-person shooter Warhammer 40K: Space Marine will be deploying sometime in August 2011 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
There’s not much else available in the way of hard intel about the game, except that players will take control of a single Space Marine – Captain Titus of the Ultramarines – who’s tasked with preventing an Ork Warboss and his million-Ork army from recovering a Warlord-class Battle Titan abandoned somewhere on one of the Imperial Forge Worlds. Whatever that means.
Apparently players will also be able to upgrade their gear on the go, and customise their character. The devs have confirmed that they’re recklessly bucking genre trends, and won’t be including any sort of cover system.
The game’s in development over at Relic Entertainment, previously responsible for Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War and its sequels and expansions, although its only other console game – The Outfit, released in 2006 on Xbox 360 – was a commercial and critical bomb.
