EA hit with class action lawsuit over alleged monopoly on football games

If you’ve ever bought one of EA’s many American football titles (including any of the Madden NFL, NCAA Football, or Arena Football League series), you could be part of an exciting class action lawsuit, alleging the publisher has maintained a tyrannical monopoly over the genre.

The case – Pecover vs Electronic Arts – states that “defendant Electronic Arts entered into a series of exclusive licenses with the National Football League (NFL), National Football League Players’ Association (NFLPA), National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA), and Arena Football League (AFL), which plaintiffs claim foreclosed competition in an alleged football video game market.”

According to the complaint, this arrangement has “caused customers who purchased certain football video games to be overcharged”, even though EA’s sports titles are priced around about exactly the same as everything else.

Unsurprisingly enough, “Defendant Electronic Arts has denied any liability and all allegations of misconduct.”

Honestly, doesn’t America have murderers to prosecute?
