Is Portal 2 Valve’s last real single-player game?

26 April 2011

One of Portal 2’s more unexpected additions is its co-op campaign – and it might well be an indicator of where Valve’s headed for future game projects.

That’s according to GameTrailers’ Geoff Keighley, who writes in his iOS app-based article The Final Hours of Portal 2 that, “[The game] will probably be Valve’s last game with an isolated single-player experience.”

He later clarified the comment on his blog over the weekend, saying that this was no random speculation on his part, but, “This is coming from Valve, although I don’t have a lot more to share other than what is in the story. I agree it’s a provocative statement, especially given the amazing single player storyline in Portal 2.  Keep in mind Valve said ‘probably’, so I get the feeling that this could change.”

While it seems a somewhat unlikely scenario (Half-Life: Episode 3, etc.), it’s possible Valve means they won’t be putting out any more games without a multiplayer feature of some sort.
