DC Universe Online servers to be merged

3 May 2011

Sony Online Entertainment has revealed plans to merge many of the existing DC Universe Online servers into four new ‘super servers.’ Sony claims that this is a good thing – a move designed to reduce queue waiting times and foster a larger community.

Cynics might however say that this is an ill-omen for the MMO, as history has proven that server merges are usually not a good sign of a healthy MMO. Considering that the game has launched within the last few months, does this hint that DC Universe Online isn’t all that popular?

The four ‘super servers’ will be split between PC and PS3, with each platform getting one for the US and one for Europe. Unfortunately this means that PC and PS3 players will still not be able to play against each other, which would actually be a good idea.

Although things were initially planned to be happening within the next few weeks, it’s now all on hold as Sony Online Entertainment and Sony at large has far broader problems with the security of their gaming services.
