Valve has opened up Aperture Science Laboratories Enrichment Centre to the general public with the launch of the Portal 2 Authoring Tools beta for PC today. Now’s your chance to be the despotic AI tyrant you’ve always known you were.
The Portal 2 Authoring Tools set provides everything you’ll need to create a safe and/or dangerous testing environment for both single-player and co-op, as well as custom character skins, 3D models, sound effects, and whatever else your rogue core module so desires.
The add-on should be available to all Portal 2 PC owners, as a free download listed under the “Tools” tab in Steam. Here’s what’s it includes:
– Updated version of Hammer, the Source level editor
– Updated Faceposer
– Example maps and instances to help build new maps
– Updated suite of command-line compiling utilities
Just don’t forget to include the text “TEST” on all your test chambers, so subjects know what it is. The Enrichment Centre promises to always provide useful advice.

Of course, if making your own deathtraps isn’t really your thing, Valve has already announced they’re deploying the first Portal 2 DLC sometime pretty soon, which will include new test chambers and challenge modes for single- and multiplayer, and it’s going to be 100% free.
