The Witcher 2 Premium Edition unboxed

Our review copy of The Witcher 2 just arrived, and MyGaming and MyBroadband staff have come to the consensus that the packaging is easily amongst the most impressive for a game we have ever laid eyes on.

Now, what we have here is the Premium Edition. Don’t be fooled by the name though, because there are currently only two editions available: Premium and Collector’s.

The Premium Edition costs the same as what you’d expect tp pay for a regular edition PC game, and the MyGaming shop currently has it listed for R320 (remember to use “mygaming” as your coupon when you check out to get an extra R100 off).

The Collector’s Editions carries a recommended retail price of R1,099, but the MyGaming shop has it for R929. That’s R829 when you use the aforementioned voucher code. Stock is very limited though, so don’t be mad if you click through and everything is sold out already. MyGaming will also be giving away one of the collector’s editions tomorrow, courtesy of Megarom. To find out more about how to win one of these, check our forums.

Back to the Premium Edition. We don’t usually like to demonstrate our giddiness publically like this, but every so often a publisher does something that we just have to commend them for. In this case, CD Projekt is not only releasing the full version of the game DRM free over on Good Old Games, but they have also put together a special treat for those who want the retail package.

For R320, you get the following when you buy The Witcher 2.

The Witcher 2 Premium Edition box

Notice how fat it is? That’s because it’s stuffed full of awesome extra goodies.

The Witcher 2 game guide

A 97 page game guide which is packed full of additional information, such as detailed area maps and quest descriptions.

The Witcher 2 papercraft models

Two miniature papercraft models based on characters from the game. We’ve not yet had a chance to put them together because we’re too busy arguing over who gets to take the game home.

The Witcher 2 bonus DVD and soundtrack

The bonus DVD includes developer commentary, gameplay videos, screenshots and more.

Witcher 2 map

A full colour map of the world which you will be exploring in The Witcher 2, as well as a sealed poem which may or may not make more sense once we’ve actually played the game.

The Witcher 2 box contents

It wouldn’t be much of a “premium” edition if it didn’t contain the game itself. The actual game box contains two game disks, as well as a 30 page manual.

So you get all that for the price of a regular PC game. Experts agree that CDProjekt is awesome, and that you should probably buy the Witcher 2 if you are a PC gamer who enjoys action-RPGs.

The Witcher 2 hits local retailers tomorrow, and is being released exclusively on PC.
