Responding to criticism that its PSN Welcome Back program offers free games that people might already own, Sony’s head of communications Nick Caplin explains that “We’ve tried really hard to put together a list of high quality BD games, rather than simply offering cheaper PSN titles. The average Metacritic rating for these games is over 84 per cent, so these are high quality games.”
PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable users are being offered a choice of two games from a list of five, including LittleBigPlanet, WipeOut Fury HD, and Infamous.
There’s just no making some people happy, though, even when it’s a bunch of free games.
“Unfortunately with a user base of 77m people, it is really hard to offer something for everyone.”
All PSN users are also entitled to 30 days of the PSN’s premium subscription option, PlayStation Plus, although content will be unavailable once the time limit is up – because that’s just how it works.
“But if you look at as access to a lot of free content for a month, you should have a busy month of gaming,” adds Caplin.
