Modern Warfare 3 release date and artwork

17 May 2011

It would appear that an Australian retailer has leaked vital pre-order details for Modern Warfare 3, outing the release date as 08.11.11.

Very little is known about the game at this stage, although the internet is rife with rumours. Modern Warfare 3 is expected to pick up the storyline where Modern Warfare 2 left off. Players will once again step into the boots of various military personnel from around the world, and confirmed locations include London, New York and Paris.

There are a couple of screenshots circulating, which are mysteriously labelled with “South Africa” in the file name, which suggests we could be seeing certain missions and multiplayer maps set in our fair country.

Other leaks suggest that confirmed weapons include the Vector, Colt 45 and a near-futuristic assault rifle called the Pacer 56.

One recurring rumour is that Modern Warfare 3 will resolve unanswered questions from the previous games. I personally don’t have any, as when it comes to these military shooters I tend to skim through the single player in auto-pilot mode before sinking my claws into the multiplayer bit.

The proposed November 2011 release date is what everyone was expecting from Activision, seeing as we may as well call every November “CoD month”, given the Publisher’s history of favouring that month for Call of Duty releases.

Of course this year will be an interesting one in the FPS market, as EA is looking extremely impressive with the hugely hyped Battlefield 3. Of course that doesn’t mean that Activision won’t go on to sell a bazillion copies of Modern Warfare 3.
