Skyrim is “too big” says Bethesda

We’re gonna interpret this as marketing hyperbole, because if Bethesda’s Todd Howard really believed that the The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is “too big”, we’re pretty sure they would make it, you know, less big.

But that’s exactly what the game’s director told Norwegian gaming site Gamer.no.

“At last count we had about 120 real caves, and more than 100 common points of interest outside,”  said Howard, going on to say “The game is actually too big.”

Apparently Skyrim’s world map is roughly the same size as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion’s, and I don’t recall many people complaining of that game being “too big”.

Skyrim’s enviroments will, however, be far more dynamic and interesting than Oblivion’s. Howard told Gamer.no that “We also have grassy tundra, volcanic tundra, a forest with an autumnal theme and a glacier. There are about six or seven distinct types of environments,” and that environmental change will be far more noticable in Skyrim than it was in Fallout 3 or Oblivion.

Bethesda has confirmed that the world of Skyrim will be populated by various wildlife, including wolves, deer, elk, rabbit and mammoths. Oh, and also giants.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is due out on 11 November 2011, and it will be available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
