Kotaku has gotten hold of some insider details on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s multiplayer component, and if it’s the same anonymous tipster that gave them the single player details which wound up being true, then we can probably take this info to the bank.
With that said, it’s worth bearing in mind that this information is not official.
According to the report, there will be no zombies in Modern Warfare 3, which was expected given that the zombie thing is Treyarch’s baby and this is an Infinity Ward game. There will apparently be 20 maps in Modern Warfare 3, although it remains unclear how many of these will be available at launch and how many will come later via DLC, or CoD Elite.
Once again, multiplayer will be divided into cooperative Spec Ops maps and regular multiplayer maps. Spec Ops will feature Survival mode, Mission mode and a “horde-like” mode. There will be 12 maps to choose from.
Update
Infinity Ward Community manager Robert Bowling has confirmed via Twitter that there “is no such thing as ‘team perks’.
Infinity Ward will introduce Team Perks with Modern Warfare 3, which will supposedly promote team work. Kotaku has confirmed the following 4 team perks:
Stopping Power: Increased bullet damage.
Blast Shield: Unclear
Health Regen: Regenerate health over time.
Stun Protection: Prevent stunning from flash grenades.
Additionally, Modern Warfare 3 will be getting a bunch of new individual perks, including the following:
Blind Eye: Makes you immune to other players’ kill streaks.
Assassin: Makes you immune to UAV, thermal, and heartbeat sensors.
Point Guard: Every two assists count as a kill towards your killstreak.
Dead Silence: You make no noise.
Recon: Unclear, something to do with a radar for spotting enemies.
Modern Warfare 3 will see killstreaks return from Modern Warfare 2. There will not be any Black Ops killstreaks.

According to Kotaku, the following Killstreaks are currently confirmed:
EMP Grenade
Little Bird –remote controlled helicopter
Precision airstrike
Stealth Bomber
Remote turret – turret cannon controlled by player
Directional UAV – player controlled UAV
Mortar strike
Airdrop trap
Ammo resupply
Escort airdrop – protected airdrop
Specialist strike package – unclear what this is
Kotaku has also stated that tactical nukes will not be returning in Modern Warfare 3.
The bad news for PC gamers, is that Modern Warfare 3 will not be getting dedicated server support. It will apparently revert to the P2P system employed with Modern Warfare 2.
Given what a mess Black Ops’ dedicated server solution ended up being, this should probably not come as a surprise.
