20 October 2017
Troy Hunt

Security researcher Troy Hunt – who runs Have I Been Pwned? – recently revealed a massive South African database leak.

Figures initially provided by Hunt suggested the database contained the ID numbers of 60 million South Africans – including deceased citizens.

New data released by Hunt shows that the database may in fact contain the private details of every living South African – up to 2014.

Hunt provides an overview of the data breach and how incidents like this take place, in the video below.

If you want to skip the background, Hunt starts talking about how he started investigating the leak at around the 10 minute mark.
