Rumour control: Bungie working on a… steampunk game? [UPDATE: NOT]

14 June 2011

UPDATE: Nope, not Bungie, just a bunch of other people renting office space out of Bungie’s building. Liz “lilithbunny” Spain tells Gamespot, ” “No, we were actually shooting for another video game company in space borrowed from the Bungie Offices. The game we were shooting for is going to be on the iPad.” Boo!

The interwebs’ network of spies has turned up a rather interesting bit of information – Bungie’s apparently put out a call for “Greater Seattle steampunks” to attend a photoshoot event for the developer’s “steampunk game”. Wait, what steampunk game?

In a post on the Seattle Steamrats forum, user “lilithbunny” says:

Calling all Greater Seattle steampunks! I need people to show up in steampunk finery to have photos taken for video game artwork for a steampunk game currently in development. Wear your own steampunk clothing or show up and we’ll put you in costume. Snacks and beverages will be provided and a good time will be had by all!

If you have steampunk outfits that are Victorian British military, French military, Confederate or Pirate-y themed, please bring them, as they would suit the game quite well. (extra points for Naval military themes)

Also, any photographers willing to donate their time are more than welcome to bring a camera and their skills so that we may have more coverage of the fabulous-looking people who are sure to be there.

Since signing off the Halo brand to 343 Industries last year and moving over to Activision’s court, Bungie has kept its next project wrapped up in secret-paper.

In the unlikely event that they’re working on a game adaptation of China Miéville’s Bas Lag series, you read it here first.
