Fortnite has announced via Twitter that it has raised over 100 million dollars to support the humanitarian relief for people affected by the war in Ukraine.
This effort began with the release of its new season earlier this month, when it said that all proceeds from 20 March to 3 April will be donated to humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.
These proceeds come from the in-game purchases made by players and include battle pass purchases, cosmetic purchases, v-bucks purchases, and anything else bought within Fortnite’s item shop.
Organizations that have received donations from the battle royale game include:
- Direct Relief
- United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)
- United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP)
- The Un Refugee Agency (UNHCR)
- World Central Kitchen
There are still four days to go until the end of the campaign, but Fortnite’s efforts have already set a high precedent for other gaming companies.
Other popular tech companies have also pledged to donate towards the humanitarian efforts in Ukraine, including:
- Google ($25 million)
- Salesforce ($2 million)
- Snapchat ($15 million)
Fortnite has also included information on its website for those wishing to donate to the cause.
As of today, we’ve raised $100 million USD together to support humanitarian relief for people affected by the war in Ukraine. In addition to @UNICEF, @WFP, @Refugees and @DirectRelief, we are now also collaborating with @WCKitchen.
