New Tomb Raider game announced

6 April 2022

Developer Crystal Dynamics in partnership with Square Enix has announced that a new Tomb Raider game is in development.

This news was shared during the State of Unreal 2022, a special presentation put on by Epic Games to showcase and highlight Unreal Engine 5.

After this presentation, confirmation of the announcement was posted to Tomb Raider’s official Twitter page.

“Crystal Dynamics is incredibly excited about the future of Unreal and how it will help us take our storytelling to the next level,” said Crystal Dynamics.

“That’s why we’re proud to announce that our next #tombraider game is being built on Unreal Engine 5.”

At the time of publishing, there’s no word on which platforms the game will be available on, when it will be released, or even the game’s name. Crystal Dynamics has also not provided a timeline for the reveal of any of this information.

Unfortunately, for fans of the Lara Croft series, further information about the new game is unlikely to come any time soon.

Crystal Dynamics is actively working on Marvel’s Avengers post-launch support and Perfect Dark, which means the new Tomb Raider game is likely to take a backseat.

All we know for now is that the game will be powered by Unreal Engine 5, the latest iteration of Epic Games’ engine which has promised to provide some truly next-gen visuals.
