Sega has announced on Twitter that Sonic Origins has been released.
This announcement, which came with a launch trailer, marks the franchise’s 31st anniversary since the 2D Sonic titles were originally released on the Sega Genesis and Mega Drive platform.
Sonic Origins is a collection of four classic 2D Sonic the Hedgehog games which include Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD.
The collection is promised to deliver the same non-stop Sonic action found in the original games while providing a fresh twist with remastered visuals, added features, new content, modes, and more.
A mentionable inclusion to Sonic Origins will be the Anniversary mode, which will feature enhanced widescreen visuals and infinite lives — which is notable for being the first time such a version of Sonic 3 & Knuckles has been available.
The game also includes a museum that features sounds, illustrations, and movies to reflect the series’ history.
The collection is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam or the Epic Games Store.
