Call of Duty: Black Ops now the UK’s best-selling game ever

29 June 2011

According to sales stats recently released by the Association for UK Interactive Entertainment, Call of Duty: Black Ops is now officially the country’s biggest video game unit shifter ever. By 25 June, the game has now sold 3,722,411 copies, passing Modern Warfare 2’s sales by just over 2000 copies in the 30 weeks since launch.

A month or two back, the game was also announced as North America’s number one seller in history, with almost 14 million copies sold over there (at the time). With at least 18 million copies sold worldwide, Activision’s now banked around $1 billion on the title.

“This is a terrific achievement for Activision and Treyarch, showing that established franchises continue to perform well and that the UK market remains strong,” says UKIE commercial manager Sam Collins.

“The result is all the more impressive given that it does not include digital sales, which would substantially increase the figure.”

This also seems to defy conventional thinking that the game is rubbish.
