Activision boss and intergalactic evil overlord Bobby Kotick has branded the new PlayStation Vita with his fiery stamp of approval, but questioned its relevance in a market already dominated by smartphones.
“It is a fantastic piece of hardware. Technically, we’re super excited about what we can do on it, it’s really something incredible,” he tells the Guardian, clearing thinking of all the cheap movie tie-ins he could sign off on it.
“The question is, where is the market? I think the pricing was surprisingly affordable, the product itself is really great – so the question is, is there a need in the marketplace for a very specialised portable device of that capability?”
Although he does point out himself, a little earlier in the interview, that “There will always be a need for specialised hardware to satisfy the needs of gamers”, so I guess gamers are probably the market. Which does kind of make sense.
