South African games release schedule – July

4 July 2011

It’s been a busy few months in the gaming world, with some fantastic titles such as The Witcher 2, LA Noire, Mortal Kombat, Portal 2 and inFamous 2 all hitting local retail shelves, alongside other less memorable experiences – I’m looking at you, Duke.

This month is looking like a quiet one, at least in terms of retail releases. The only really noteworthy affair due out over the next few weeks is Call of Juarez: The Cartel, which is out on 22 July for PS3 and Xbox 360. A PC version is expected at a later date, but only console owners will get their hands on it this month.

Apart from that, we have a new Harry Potter game lined up with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, and then of course there’s Captain America: Super Soldier – goodie.

So pickings are indeed slim for July, although gamers can take comfort in the fact that Deux Ex: Human Revolution is being released for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 in August, alongside Rugby World Cup 2011 for sports fans as well as Take 2’s new third-person shooter IP, Spec Ops: The Line. Things will continue to heat up in September with Warhammer 40K: Space Marine and Gears of War 3.

For now though, gamers can look forward to the following:

Platforms Local release date
Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition 360, PS3, PC 15 July
Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon 360, PS3 15 July
Call of Juarez: The Cartel 360,PS3 22 July
Captain America: Super Soldier 360, PS3 22 July
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 360, PS3, PC TBA

On the bright side, you have 6 weeks to make a dent in that ever growing back catalogue of yours.
