Dragon Age II: Legacy DLC arrives this month

12 July 2011

EA has official unrelieved the first DLC pack for the dramatically underwhelming Dragon Age II, which failed miserably at living up to the critical acclaim of its predecessor. Despite its generally lukewarm reception, the game did have its fans, myself included.

So I was actually quite pleased to read that they will be offering additional support to the game, in the form of (MUCH NEEDED) new areas to explore, as well as additional Hawke family back-story to delve into – although that is admittedly a little difficult to get excited about.

Legacy will also offer new creatures to battle, including new Darkspawn. It will also tweak already existing creatures, such as the pride demon which will duplicate itself, making the battle more challenging. Speaking of challenging, Bioware promises that the DLC will increase the tactical requirements of combat. The original game was criticised for being too easy, and even on the harder difficulty level it was possible to get through it without having to go into too much depth with party management.

The DLC will also pit players against a new enemy “so powerful, even the Grey Wardens had kept it a secret,” although Bioware has yet to expand on what it will be.

The DLC will be released on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 via the various platforms’respective digital distribution channels on 26 July. For the $10 (R70) price tag, it had better offer a good few hours of gameplay. Check out the official site for more info.
