Reddit inspires indie sandbox zombie game

Some of the greatest and most successful games in history have not been made with budgets of millions of dollars, but by a few dedicated individuals with a unified goal and a lot of talent. This is how many legendary games have been born, such as Counter-strike and DotA.

In that spirit, a team of independent developers are creating a new style of Zombie game, after being inspired by a post on community website Reddit.com. Their intention is to create a game very different from games such as the Left 4 Dead franchise, which basically involves using an array of weapons to destroy hordes of crazed undead.

Ditching the linear style, the creators hope to create a sandbox style survival game, called Survivor Zero. From their website: “Instead of focusing on combating waves of zombies in high-octane shootouts, the game will allow players the chance to use not only strength but creativity and logic in order to survive in a post-apocalyptic world.”

The inspiration for this project was a post on Reddit simply requesting a game with “No time limits, no plot devices, no crazy super zombie boss… Just a massive open world where you have to actually be careful what you do.”

While shooting legions of zombies with varying degrees of creativity can be somewhat one-dimensional, this project looks to have enormous potential for depth. The creators want to emphasize the struggle of living in a post-apocalyptic world rather than non-stop action.

Keep an eye on this project at Survivor Zero, it could be something really special.
