Just Dance franchise reaches 14 million units sold

16 July 2011

When it comes to game developers, the Nintendo Wii isn’t exactly the most popular kid in the class. Mostly due to the limitations of the hardware, the Wii’s most successful games and franchises have almost all been created by Nintendo themselves.

However, as a casual platform, the Wii has enjoyed phenomenal success – and any developer willing to cash in on that casual market may find a huge pot of gold at the end of that mediocre-hardware rainbow.

Just ask Ubisoft, whose casual hit Just Dance 2 just claimed the title of best-selling 3rd party Wii game ever created. That may sound like a lot of qualifiers, but the franchise has sold more than 14 million units to date.

Let’s just hope the success of the franchise doesn’t cause Ubisoft to get overzealous – or we may see Just Dance go the way of Guitar Hero.
