PS3 a “pain in the ass” to work with

In today’s round of He-Said, She-Said, AND NOW IT’S NUCLEAR WAR, Vigil Games’ Marvin Donald has totally dissed the PS3, describing Sony’s console as a “pain in the ass”.

“It’s a pain in the ass to work on,” he says, talking about development on the Darksiders sequel. “Five years later, getting used to it? That means it’s a pain in the ass.

“I’m not an engineer, but I hear about it all the time. We have to do wacky stuff with the way we manage memory.”

Of course, that’s all part of Sony’s cunning plan. Back in 2009, Kaz Hirai explained that they’d actually decided to make PS3 development difficult.

“It’s hard to program for, and a lot of people see the negatives of it, but if you flip that around, it means the hardware has a lot more to offer,” Hirai told the Official PlayStation Magazine, in a quote that was instantly copy-pasted all over the charted and uncharted universe.

“We don’t provide the ‘easy to program for’ console that [developers] want, because ‘easy to program for’ means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so then the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine-and-a-half years?”

And you know what Sony can do in the meantime? They can hire a proper PR person.
