The Darkness II delayed into 2012

20 July 2011

2K Games has announced that The Darkness II, for all previously announced video game consoles and PC, is now planned for release on 7 February 2012 in North America and 10 February 2012 in the rest of the world. The game is currently in development with Digital Extremes and based on the supernatural horror comic book series created by Top Cow Productions.

“The Darkness II delivers a brutal and personal narrative as gamers take control of Jackie Estacado, head of a New York crime family and wielder of an ancient and ruthless force of chaos and destruction known as the Darkness,” describes 2K Games.

Originally pegged for release in October, the reason for the delay is unclear. It may be a business decision to prevent the game having to compete with a slew of other holiday blockbuster titles such as Batman: Arkham City, Modern Warfare 3, and Battlefield 3. Perhaps Digital Extremes requires more time to finish up development.

The game is apparently developed enough that 2K Games is willing to have playable demos ready for the San Diego Comic-Con taking place in late July 2011. 2K Games will have eight playable demo kiosks of The Darkness II in the Top Cow booth (#2629) on the San Diego Comic-Con show floor for fans to try out. We can probably expect some footage from the event.

About The Darkness II

The Darkness II is the sequel to the million unit-selling 2007 title, The Darkness, and brings a unique new combat mechanic through Quad-Wielding, which will allow players to slash, grab, and throw objects and enemies with two Demon Arms while simultaneously firing two weapons. The game is layered with thematic elements of dark versus light, steeped in deep and twisted storytelling, and maintains the stylistic violence visualised through a hand-painted graphic noir technique, true to its comic book origins.
