Nintendo announces free games deal for existing 3DS owners

28 July 2011

If you’re feeling a bit burned for paying loads of cash for your 3DS just ahead of its 30% price cut, here’s some news to ease that pain – Nintendo is making nice with free games for you. Hugs and kisses implied.

“We plan to offer an exclusive Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Programme to consumers who have purchased the Nintendo 3DS at the original launch price,” a spokesperson for the company tells CVG.

“The programme will enable these Nintendo 3DS owners to download 10 NES games and 10 Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games for free.

“To be registered for this programme, the Nintendo 3DS owners simply need to connect to the Nintendo eShop before the 12th of August. The free software will then be made available at a later stage.

“More details on the programme will be announced on the Nintendo of Europe website shortly.”

The price cut follows last night’s announcement that 3DS sales have been pretty dismal, coming in at just 700 000-odd since launch, in dramatic comparison with the DS which sold about a hundred zillion in the same time period.’
