Voice of GLaDOS back in the studio “for a new game and more Portal work"

3 August 2011

So hey, what’s Ellen McLain up to these days? We don’t hang out much, you know, but according to her hubby’s Twitter stream, the voice of GLaDOS is headed back to the studio to get busy with “a new game and more Portal work”.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH.

Let’s speculate! I’ll go first.

Maybe she’s working on new Portal DLC (a not at all unlikely contingency), but – if you remember how Half-Life 2: Episode Two ended – maybe Aperture Science Laboratories’ star rogue AI is going to make an appearance in Episode Three. Which also qualifies as a “new game”, doesn’t it?

Ellen also provided the voice of both Episode One and Episode Two’s Combine Overwatch, as well as Team Fortress 2’s announcer, so there’s that too. Mind you, Team Fortress 2 has nothing to do with Half-Life, so let’s pretend that one isn’t there – besides, there’s no reason to imagine Valve might be working on another sequel for that brand just yet.

Of course, Valve are notoriously secretive about this stuff, so speculation will likely remain nothing more than speculation until Valve decides otherwise. Pretty brutal, Gabe.

Any guesses as to what McLain is working on? << Let us know in the forums
