Markus ‘Notch’ Persson, otherwise known as the mastermind behind indie sensation Minecraft (which has just topped 3 million sales by the way), has been on the receiving end of a legal threat by Bethesda, otherwise known as that giant game development and publishing company owned by ZeniMax Media.
Persson’s development company, Mojang, formed on the back of the Minecraft success, announced back in March 2011 that they are working on another game called Scrolls, which is to be an interactive collectible card game.
Bethesda’s legal dragons have apparently completed their dark rituals and decided that the name ‘Scrolls’ is actually infringing on their Elder Scrolls trademark. Notch tweeted: “Just got a letter from Bethesta’s [sic] lawyers. They claim “Scrolls” infringes on their trademark and everyone will confuse it with Skyrim.”
They may have a point; I totally thought Notch was coding for Skyrim when he first mentioned Scrolls. /sarcasm
