Valve confirms multi-platform Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Earlier this week we reported on a rumour concerning a sequel to Valve’s iconic Counter-Strike.

Officially called Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Valve’s new tactical first-person-shooter is due out on PC, Mac, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live early next year.

According to Valve, the game will feature updated Counter-Strike favourites such as de-dust, as well as new maps, characters and weapons. There will also be new gameplay modes, matchmaking and leaderboards.

“Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999,” said Valve marketing chief Doug Lombardi.

“For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise.

“CS: GO promises to expand on the CS’ award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac.”

25 million copies sold for a PC exclusive game is huge, and proves that there is massive support for the franchise.

Valve is collaborating withDefense Grid: The Awakening creator, Hidden Path Entertainment.
