Since its official this-game-is-in-development announcement at the Spike TV Video Game Awards in December last year, there’s not been much in the way of just what Guillermo del Toro and Volition Inc’s inSANE actually is.
Talking to MTV Multiplayer, del Toro has finally dropped a few details about the mysterious project, which turns out to be a “Lovecraftian” (mis)adventure.
“We had to build a sandbox, so we designed all the architecture already,” he says.
“We’ve been working for a year. We have two or three more years to go. It’s huge.
“I’m a huge gamer but going into constructing it, you have to be respectful of the medium. I’m learning a lot. Talking about the storyline for weeks. We’ve been designing the creatures, which are obscenely fun and unique. You haven’t seen them ever.
“It’s Lovecraftian, it’s really weird, but it’s Lovecraftian in a very sick way, which I like,” he adds. “It’s truly, truly entertaining. Full of action, but also a very shocking game.”
Remember, this is the guy who came up with Pan’s Labyrinth, so expect the unexpected. And maybe a super skinny pale man with eyeballs on the palms of his hands.
