Sony confirms 512 MB RAM for PS Vita

17 August 2011

Sony’s officially busted rumours that the PS Vita took a hardware downgrade, confirming that the handheld does actually, yes, in fact, have 512 MB RAM. So much for internet speculation.

Rumours started around E3, when reports went around claiming that the PS Vita had seen a number of hardware downgrades in order to keep its retail price competitive with the Nintendo 3DS.

By way of comparison, the original PlayStation Portable had just 32 MB RAM, later upgraded to 64 MB in subsequent revisions.

So, pretty big improvement there.

What Sony hasn’t yet confirmed, however, is a launch date for the new PS Vita, although it’s expected sometime this year in Japan, and around the first quarter of 2012 in America, Europe, and over here.

Over at Gamescom in Germany in the meantime then, our man on the scene James Etherington-Smith has compiled an info-bomb of the PS Vita’s features and launch titles.
