Battlefield 3 will push your PC to its limits

21 August 2011

If you’re the kind of guy whose PC has more LEDs than a stealth bomber and is cooled with something other than air, rejoice – Battlefield 3 is going to push it to its limits.

We saw a lot of PC hardware enthusiasts complain about Crysis 2, which didn’t exactly push the limits of what PC hardware is capable of. This was in stark contrast to its predecessor, which nobody could run on full graphics upon its release.

In a Gamescom interview with Geforce.com, BF3 developer Karl Magnus explains that the PC version will be the best SKU and gamers “will need a really good PC to run it.”

There hasn’t been any official word on recommended system requirements, but Magnus said PC gamers “should start aiming pretty high if they want to run everything on the highest setting. We would like people to really build some really monster machines to run this on with the best graphics card they can get their hands on.”

Don’t be disheartened if you’re at the lower end however, the Frostbite Engine 2 is designed to run on lower end machines as well, albeit not as prettily. No doubt the 64-player capabilities of the game are going to put heavy strain on computers at the higher settings, so if you’ve been looking for an excuse to upgrade, look no further.
