The Legend of Zelda series turns 25 this year, and what better way to mark the big occasion than giving everybody a free game?
Well, that’s everybody who owns a DSi or 3DS, anyway, as it’s being released exclusively through Nintendo’s DSi Shop.
So what’s the free game? It’s a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, a 4-player co-op, multiplayer-only game originally released as a bonus extra on the A Link to the Past GBA cartridge.
The game features a series of randomised dungeons across four stages, and requires players to work closely together to solve puzzles and progress.
Nintendo’s not said anything about online play, so it’s presumably supporting local wireless only until someone says otherwise. Bit of a shame if there’s no online play, but hey, it’s free.
It’ll be coming out (again) on an as yet unconfirmed date sometime “in September”.
In related news, Nintendo also recently announced that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword would be launching in November.
