It’s been just five days since Crytek released the CryENGINE 3 devkit to the public, and – perhaps unsurprisingly – it’s already been downloaded 108132 times at the time of writing this. Oh, wait, make that 108139. No, 108147. Just forget the exact number, it’s a lot.
Huge success! If we adjust that figure for reality, it means at least one total makeover project for Quake II that will never be completed.
“This SDK contains more toys than we’ve ever released before – it empowers people to create whole new games from scratch, not just mod Crytek’s own games, so we encourage all aspiring and indie developers to try it out,” Carl Jones, Director of Global Business Development over at CryENGINE HQ, said at launch.
The devkit is free for all non-commercial project development, while Crytek will take a 20% cut of the revenue of any commercial products created. If that sounds like a good deal to you, get yourself over to the official site and grab a copy.
