I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is, Machinarium is coming to the iPad 2 sometime in September. The bad news is it’s not coming to the original iPad.
“We have finally submitted the game for Apple’s approval last night,” writes Amanita Design founder Jakub Dvorský on the dev’s official blog.
“The release date is now set on September 8th. Unfortunately, the game needs quite a lot of memory and fast CPU so it works well only on iPad 2. However there are no compromises in this version and it looks great on tablet. We apologize to all iPad 1 owners!”
I don’t get it. The original iPad can run a 3D game like Rage HD or the Unreal Engine-powered Infinity Blade, but it can’t run a 2D side-scroller? Somebody wasn’t paying much attention in their computer science class.
The game is also in development for Android devices and the Blackberry Playbook, and should also see a PSN launch sometime soon. The Xbox 360 version was cancelled due to some drama about Microsoft’s XBLA publishing policies.
