If you’ve been wondering when Sony would be launching its codenamed “S1” tablet, stop wondering and start saving, because it’s arriving next month.
According to a report over on engadget, the device is now officially and somewhat unimaginatively named the “Sony Tablet S”, and will ship out with Android 3.1. The 9.4” tablet features a 1280 x 768 display, front and back cameras at 3.0 and 5.0 megapixels respectively, and a range of accessories that engadget’s source describes as “similar to those for the iPad”. Which makes sense, because at a glance, it looks exactly like an iPad too.
As a PlayStation Certified device, the Tablet S will also support the company’s cross-platform PlayStation Suite software framework, which is techspeak for a special PlayStation Store with games.
Although Sony hasn’t confirmed a price for the Tablet S, it’s been previously tagged at $599. It’s expected to launch in the “first two weeks” of September.
