This weekend is PAX Prime weekend, and at the “PC Gaming in 2011 and 2012” panel, Swedish video game developer Paradox Interactive has announced a new game currently in development.
While details are pretty scant at the moment, the game goes under the rather wordy title of Warlock: Master of the Arcane. The game has only just entered production, but Paradox did have a short trailer to show off, featuring game lore, concept art and Sean Connery (well, not exactly Sean Connery, but a narrator who sounds like he may moonlight as an impersonator).
Aside from the video, Paradox didn’t have much else to say. You’ll play the game as an ambitious Grand Wizard who his eyes on the ultimate prize – the post of Warlock, leader of all the Wizards. To achieve this goal, you must fight for the control of the Ardania territory.
The gameplay will be in the form of turn-based strategy, a somewhat love-it-or-hate-it style of game. You’ll have control of armies and multiple spells which you need to utilize with strategic efficiency in order to achieve your goal.
Paradox will be developing this game in the wake of another wizarding success, Magicka – even the presenter from Paradox looked ready to LARP in a green Magicka robe.
With that kind of strategy pedigree and another wizard-themed focus, we may have something quite special to look forward to. No doubt more information will be unearthed in the coming months, as for now there just isn’t much to show us. There is no official release date as this time.
