The votes are in, and it seems gamers aren’t quite as predictable as we all thought they were. Mass Effect 3, easily one of the most highly anticipated games of this year, has been running a somewhat long-winded competition on what the female protagonist should look like, henceforth known as FemShep.
The voting was done by Facebook, with a host of different character designs on offer. Girl gamers the world over groaned when the winning design was, rather disappointingly, the blonde.
However, it seems our brethren were judged too soon, as an analysis of the votes showed that the choice was based not on the colour of the hair, but on the style. A bunch of gamers getting picky about hairstyles, who’d ’a thunk it?
Thus began round 2 of the vote, with a hair rainbow of FemSheps all sporting the same style. In a dramatic (ahem) turn of events, the unlikely underdog, the redhead, as won by a landslide. With 19,515 likes, the Mass Effect protagonist will be a ginger.
Hopefully the votes are over with now, I don’t think I could stomach a vote on which side of the face they should put a beauty spot, or how pouty her lips should be. I suppose as long as we don’t see any votes on bust size we’ll be okay, as I feel our hairstyle enthusiasts may be predictably disappointing on that score.
