The best thing that can ever happen to your game is a well-oiled hype machine. Come release, a large amount of hype can sell your game faster than smuggled Cornettos at fat camp. This fact has been made apparent when looking at the UK sales figures for the month of August.
According to the UK sales charts, Deus Ex is the 2nd best-selling game for August. 2nd doesn’t sound all that impressive, until you take into account the fact that while all the other games on the list enjoyed a full month of sales, Deus Ex had only been on sale for a measly 48 hours of the tracking period.
In two days, Deux Ex managed to outsell nearly every other game in the UK. It was edged out only by perennial favourite Zumba Fitness, but I’m sure given a little more time it’ll be top of the heap without too much effort.
Here’s the full top ten for August:
1: Zumba Fitness (505 Games)
2: Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Square Enix)
3: LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean (Disney)
4: Cars 2 (Disney)
5: Dirt 3 (Codemasters)
6: Rugby World Cup 2011 (505 Games)
7: FIFA 11 (EA)
8: LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 (Warner)
9: Just Dance 2: Extra Songs (Ubisoft)
10: Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows Part 2 (EA)
