Recently EA’s PR team announced that it had some “big announcements ahead”, although that didn’t really mean anything coming from a PR team.
Fast forward a few weeks, and EA really has announced something rather unexpected: Crysis is being released on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network next month.
When it was originally released back in 2007, Crysis instantly became the most technically impressive game ever seen. There was a price to pay, however, and for all its gorgeous visuals and next-gen physics, barely anyone could play it in all its glory due to the demands it placed on PC hardware at the time. Even today when discussing new hardware PC gamers jokingly ask “but can it play Crysis on max?”.
Due to it being ridiculously resource hungry, many would never have imagined that the game would one day be released for current generation consoles, but that is exactly what EA will be doing in October, according to a trailer exclusively published by Gametrailers.
It will be interesting to see just how well the game has been optimized for current console hardware, which is pushing 6/7 years, pre-dating the release of the game itself. In all likelihood we can expect the game to render at sub-HD resolutions and have stripped out a lot of the technical wizardry that made the original so demanding.
Having said that, the game play footage featured in the trailer looks great, and any console gamers out there who never got a chance to experience the original classic would do well to check it out.
