First Rage co-op trailer drops

When people take a moment to stop bickering about Modern Warfare vs Battlefield, there’s a couple of other big releases on the horizon that are worth getting excited about.

One of these certainly is Rage, the newest offering from legendary studio id. Id is the James Cameron of game developers, they don’t push out new games very often, but when they do, they’re going to be awesome. Rage has spent quite some time in development, and has a lot of people quivering with anticipation.

As is the way of the hype mill, we’ve been circling like stray dogs, feasting on the various bits and pieces we’re allowed to see. The latest scrap to get tossed down from id’s table is a juicy one – the first bit of co-op footage we’ve seen thus far.

Rage won’t be entirely playable in co-op, instead including a series of missions separate from the main game that are playable only with a buddy. These will run alongside the story, and go by the overarching name of “Legends of the Wasteland.”

Id senior producer Jason Kim, talking to PCgamer, had this to say: “You’re doing the same mechanics you had in your first FPS combat experience, but you’re using a buddy to help you out, and the cooperative experience is telling you side-portions of the single-player campaign that you wouldn’t [otherwise get.]”

Perhaps the most exciting part is getting to revive your fallen comrade with a defibrillator that looks a little too much like a stun gun.

Rage is due out October 7th, in the meantime check out the co-op trailer below:
