Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer changes listed

Activision held its first Call of Duty XP fan convention event recently; a sold-out event which also attracted over 100,000 people watching it online.

This makes it easily one of the biggest gaming events of the year, and not only were some of the best gamers in the world competing live against each other, but Activision also made some new announcements during its Modern Warfare presentation.

Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg said during his keynote that you could “Add up all the bullets fired in CoD multiplayer matches, and you’ve got a number that tops the total stars in the Milky Way galaxy. And enough people play CoD online every day to fill the largest 80 sports stadiums in the world to capacity.”

“May has the Champions League, Spring has baseball, Fall has football but November is Call of Duty time,” said Hirshberg, before premiering the live action “Operation Kingfish” trailer.

Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling then took the stage, giving us some insight in to some of the gameplay changes made to Modern Warfare 3’s multiplayer component.

In his own words: “No game ending nukes, no shotguns as secondaries, definitely definitely no commando perk, no last stands… F**k you last stand! We have an awesome dialog with you our fans, and your feedback has helped us take what we’re doing, and make it even better.””

Below is the full list of changes that were mentioned during Bowling’s address, as reported by xboxfreedom.com.

– No tactical nuke killstreak reward

– Killstreak rewards will be point-based, not kill based. Players will earn points for completing objectives.

– No more Commando perk

– No Last Stand perk

– No One Man Army perk

– No shotguns as secondary weapons

– There will be three kill streak categories: Assault, Support, Specialist

– Assault and Support killstreaks won’t be reset when you die

– Modern Warfare 3 will feature weapon proficiency, which means as your player “levels up” there will be less gun-sway and recoil.

– There will be a new Team Deathmatch mode called “kill confirmed” which will require players to collect enemy dog tags in order to gain match points.

Modern Warfare 3 is due out on 8 November, and is being released on PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii.
