Update: Bethesda “super seriously” pursuing litigation against Minecraft dev

16 September 2011

Wow, the people over at Bethesda are a pretty serious bunch of fun-haters. According to a post over on Minecraft dev Markus “Notch” Persson’s Twitter stream, the company is still pursuing its litigation over his side project, Scrolls.

“Oooh, got another ‘super seriously, taking you to court now’ email from bethesda/zenimax! Looking forward to this,” writes Notch.

The publisher originally filed the suit last month, claiming that using the word “scrolls” infringes on their own Elder Scrolls trademark, because apparently people are too stupid to work out for themselves the difference between an indie game project and Bethesda’s RPG series.

I know I was totally confused and scared by it all.

Or maybe they don’t have any decent Quake 3 players in the office.

Or maybe they’re having coffee with Tim Langdell, and laughing about how awesome petty squabbling over everyday English words is.

It’s not like lawyers have anything better to do.
