Rumour: Visceral Studios Melbourne shutting down

16 September 2011

According to one of Kotaku Australia’s industry moles, Visceral Studios’ Melbourne office will be shutting its doors on Monday. The anonymous source revealed that management has informed its employees.

Visceral Games Melbourne is known for its work on Dead Space, Dante’s Inferno, and The Godfather II.

Visceral Games Melbourne was apparently working on a AAA title for consoles for three years. A management change at parent company EA meant the plug was pulled. Patrick Soderland, formerly of DICE and now EA Games Label vice president, was supposedly behind the decision.

The anonymous source claims that Soderland didn’t feel the game would be profitable, and decided to close the studio and bin the project.

If true, this leaves two branches of Visceral games in operation – the head studio in Redwood Shores, California, where EA’s corporate HQ resides, and one in Montreal Canada.
