Epic wants a partner to finish Shadow Complex 2

Nothing hurts more than when a sequel or even original game you were really looking forward to gets shelved, without much in the way of an indication of when (or if) it’ll be completed – it’s worse when this is done seemingly without mention from the developer itself (I’m looking at you Valve, where the blue hell is my Episode 3?).

Fans of the Xbox Live Arcade title Shadow Complex may thus be excited to hear that while the sequel was indeed shelved, and remains that way, Epic hasn’t forgotten about it just yet.

“Shadow Complex 2 is sitting there, it’s actually largely designed, we just need to find a partner that will help us to finish it so we can bring it to market,” says Cliff Bleszinski.

The original decision to shelve the game was a result of changing focus to the iOS title, which they decided to make from scratch rather than as a port, eventually becoming Infinity Blade. The iOS market is in a constant state of growth, and the success of Infinity Blade bears testament to that, as well as Epic’s business Savvy.

Bleszinski explains, “We needed a flagship product for iOS, plain and simple.

“We could have ported Shadow Complex, but it would have been a lot of work and it might not have been the right fit. And then Donald Mustard suggested Punch Out!! with swords and RPG layers and we were like, ‘Yes!'”
