EA is "redefining" social gaming

18 September 2011

Social gaming is in, and everyone wants a piece of it. Of course, some companies are always after the largest piece of the pie, and for EA, that seems to be standard in everything they do.

In less than a month, EA’s social games group Playfish has the 2nd largest Facebook title – no small feat, considering that to achieve that position they had to acquire forty million monthly active users – it’s already bigger than Zynga’s Farmville, second fiddle only to Cityville – for now. It’s bad enough having people trying to pawn their carrots off to me every day, I really hope they don’t start trying to donate me children.

Kristian Segerstrale, founder of Playfish, is confident that EA has redefined the social games market.

“By combining Playfish’s expertise and passion for social play with the deep creative heritage of The Sims franchise and the insights of its creators, we feel we’ve brought something very special to life – and tens of millions of players around the world have responded with extraordinary enthusiasm over the last few weeks.

“We’re looking forward to working with players to evolve the game and its features in new and exciting ways in the coming months and beyond.”

It seems everything EA touches turns to money at the moment, and one can have little doubt that the publishing powerhouse will be king of the social scene before long.
