EA shuts Visceral Games Australia

19 September 2011

Following rumours over the weekend, the International Game Developers Association has confirmed that EA has closed up its Visceral Studios Melbourne office.

“Confirmation of EA closing Visceral has been received 🙁 our best wishes to the 21 devs now out of a job #EAVisceral,” said an IGDA post on Twitter.

The studio had previously worked on Dante’s Inferno, Godfather 2, and Dead Space, and for the last three years, was reportedly also working on a console title – which may or may not have been the Jack the Ripper game, announced back in 2009 before vanishing into a development black hole – which has now been binned alongside the employees’ contracts.

That’s got to suck a bit.

At least the Dead Space franchise is still on the go over at Visceral’s Redwood Shores and Montreal divisions.

It’s been a pretty rough year in giant spider country, with Sydney-based L.A. Noire dev Team Bondi going out of business back in August 2011. Maybe they can all hang out over a shrimp barby.
